The Health and Social Care Committee and Science and Technology Committee examined the Government’s actions during and since the first wave of the pandemic in a wider assessment of the impact of coronavirus on the social care sector.

Government guidance issued to care homes on infection control, testing of residents and staff, and the provision of personal protective equipment are among issues that were considered.
Dean also heard from the manager of a care home on her experience of the pandemic’s impact on staff and residents. The hearing, chaired by Jeremy Hunt, will consider how the lack of stability in the social care provider market is affecting the sector’s response to the outbreak and ability to plan for the future.
Future evidence sessions in the inquiry will address modelling and statistics, the use of non-pharmaceutical interventions to manage the pandemic, treatments and vaccines, among other issues. MPs are examining the impact and effectiveness of action taken by the Government and the advice it has received.
