Girlguiding is the UK’s largest youth organisation dedicated completely to girls. The organisation offers a place where girls can just be themselves. They can make friends, learn skills, grow in confidence and find their voice. They become part of a supportive community with solid foundations.
The Girlguiding community is made up of 320,000 girls, young women and volunteers – as well as parents and staff colleagues from every corner of the UK and beyond. Girls meet as Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, with the youngest members aged just 4 years old.
Watford MP Dean Russell was invited to meet with the Watford Guide Girls at the Trinity Methodist Church on Whippendell Road. Dean spoke to the girls about his role as an MP and the workings of Parliament and democracy.
He was also told about how the girls will soon be working towards their ‘Explore badge’ which includes making a map of local landmarks, hearing the story of a female explorer and understanding how passports enable us to travel the world.
Speaking after the visit Dean Russell said that “Girlguiding is so important with helping girls and young women find their voice and build skills and confidence. Being told that they can do anything is really important for young girls, they shouldn’t be faced with any barriers or stereotypes.”
