Visit to Watford Delivery Office
Dean was pleased to visit the Watford Delivery Office to talk with the team about the issue of late deliveries in Watford.
Dean was grateful to the staff team for understanding the challenges faced in Watford and their willingness to discuss potential solutions. He explained that many residents contact him about this issue, and a number have missed vital hospital appointments and other important dates because of late mail.
During the meeting, Dean was advised that hospital correspondence is now prioritised as a special delivery which will be good news for local residents. This change should hopefully see a more reliable and timely service for really important mail.
Royal Mail also discussed with Dean about their C02 commitments and how they now have more electric delivery vans across Watford.
The roll out of ULEZ was acknowledged as an additional pressure on Royal Mail deliveries. Dean has opposed this from the outset and was one of the very first MP’s to voice his concerns. It proves that this is putting additional pressures on essential services.
Following the visit, Dean said, ‘I would like to thank the team at the Watford Delivery Office for their time today. I raised the justifiable concerns of residents about the issues last year regarding late deliveries of important mail. I made it clear that it was unfair on residents. I appreciate their promise to keep me updated on the progress made in addressing this ongoing issue. I was very pleased to learn about the hospital appointments are now receiving priority delivery’.
Adam Pestell (Regional Operations Manager) said ‘It was great to welcome Dean Russell MP into Watford Delivery Office. This gave us an opportunity to explain how Royal Mail is transforming as customers send far fewer letters and receive lots more parcels, and to explain the importance of reforming the Universal Service so it is fit for the future. It was also interesting to hear feedback from constituents that the service has improved’.
