To mark Dementia Action Week, Watford FC and the club’s Community, Sports & Education Trust invited people from the community for a coffee morning at Vicarage Road. Guests enjoyed live music from Denis Cook, as well as the Phoenix Choir.
Throughout last season, Watford FC worked with local coordinators from the Alzheimer’s Society who visited the stadium to provide suggestions to help make Vicarage Road a more dementia-friendly environment. The Society also provided dementia awareness training for staff to support those attending matches at the ground.
Speaking after the event Dean Russell said “It is always a pleasure to support the Trust’s fantastic community work. I really hope other club’s copy the work that Watford FC has done to make Vicarage Road as accessible as possible for those living with dementia.”
“We’re very grateful for the continuing support we receive from the Alzheimer’s Society and it’s our pleasure to promote this vital campaign. The experience we’ve gained from working with the Society means we’re well placed to ensure supporters living with dementia can continue to enjoy their football as safely as they can.”” said Dave Messenger, the club’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead.
