Watford MP Dean Russell was invited to Vicarage Road, home of Watford FC, as the Premier League trophy travels around the country to mark its 30th anniversary.
The 7-week trophy tour kicked off in Manchester and will visit Premier League, EFL, non-league and women’s clubs who have benefited from Premier League investment.
15th August 1992 ago saw the start of an exciting new era for football as the Premier League kicked off in England. Featuring 22 teams at the time, there were nine matches on the opening day for football fans to enjoy. The first Premier League goal came after only five minutes of action, when Sheffield United's Brian Deane scored against Manchester United.
The Premier League has become the most popular football league in the world thanks to the signing of world-class players who have delivered some incredible football. The League is broadcast to approximately 800million homes in 188 countries.
Following his visit to Vicarage Road Dean commented that “the Premier League has provided so many memorable moments from the last three decades and has been home to some of the best players in the world.
"Watford didn’t make their Premier League debut until 1999, but I very much hope to see them secure promotion so fans can see Premier League football return to Vicarage Road next season.”
