Dean Russell paid a visit to Nationwide’s branch on Watford’s High Street to present a cheque for £41,000 to fantastic local charity New Hope who work to combat rough sleeping.
Local residents will be familiar with the invaluable work that New Hope do in the town. Not only do they provide a bed for those who are sleeping rough, but they work to transform lives through a comprehensive package of support offering intervention, recovery and prevention services.
Dean Russell has worked closely with the charity since his election and said after the visit that “it was an honour to be asked by Nationwide to present this incredibly generous donation to New Hope, who are thoroughly deserving thanks to the tireless work that they do in Watford. They are an asset to our town, and I am extremely grateful that we have them in Watford.
Recent news that there have been no known rough sleepers in town for a number of weeks now is fantastic, and this wonderful donation from Nationwide will help to ensure that this is sustained long into the future and hopefully becomes the norm. A number of weeks ago I spoke in the House of Commons about the great work of New Hope. Since the start of the pandemic, I've been working alongside them and the Housing Secretary to secure over £4 million to end rough sleeping on our streets. As I’ve said previously since being elected one of my priorities has been securing additional funding to tackle homelessness and to deliver on the manifesto promise we made to end rough sleeping by the end of this Parliament.”
