Dean Russell kicked off his week with a visit to Watford Shopmobility in the centre of town. Having been invited to meet the volunteers and visit the premises, Dean finished his visit with a ride on one of the scooters.
Shopmobility Watford is a local charity which has been in existence for 27 years and loans manual and battery powered wheelchairs and scooters to anyone with a mobility problem, whether permanent or temporary, through accident, illness or age. It gives users greater independence. It is a free service for daily use in Watford Town centre (from Watford Museum to Watford Town Hall) and includes the Atria shopping centre.
Watford’s MP said “It was a pleasure to come and meet the team at Shopmobility and it was really interesting to get an understanding of some of the accessibility issues in our town.
"It is fantastic that we have this service in the heart of our town as it allows people that may struggle with mobility, for a variety of reasons, to have that sense of independence. It really opened my eyes to certain issues that wouldn’t perhaps cross the mind of somebody who is totally able-bodied.
"Without the volunteers this service could not operate and if you or a loved one could benefit from the service then please do get in touch with Shopmobility.”
Shopmobility added “Many thanks to Dean Russell MP taking the time to visit us and for his interest in Shopmobility Watford. He’s offered to spend some time with us as a volunteer and to assist us in the future if we contact him. His support is much appreciated by all the staff and volunteers.”
