Dean Russell visited West Herts College to meet with Gill Worgan, the Principal and Chief Executive. During the visit, there was a discussion regarding the funding the College had received from the Department of Education via the Strategic Development fund.
The College have the funding for advanced technology. This will enable students to develop skills solutions which will be advantageous for themselves and employers using some of the most advanced virtual reality techniques.
The funding is to enable the college to develop new skills training solutions for local people and businesses in response to the skills priorities identified in Local Skills Improvement Plans. These are being developed by employers with the support of Chambers of Commerce.
The tool enables each college to create ‘digital twins’ of real working environments. These digital twins will help students transition to a real place of work, as the software captures 360-degree video to mimic settings and situations.
Following the visit Dean said, 'This was an excellent visit, and I would like to thank the Principal, staff and pupils for their time today. With a background in technology, I found their plan and innovation fascinating. The work they have planned will really give the pupils and potential employers such an insight into how technology can really play such a significant role in the workplace. I am looking forward to returning to the college in the New Year to use the equipment'.
