Watford MP Dean Russell welcomed Nigel Huddleston MP, Minister for Sport, to Vicarage Road as Watford’s ground hosted the Premier League Primary Stars Football Tournament.
Using the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs, Premier League Primary Stars is inspiring children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.
The tournament took place over two days, with the first day involving primary school age boys and girls who were representing each of the twenty Premier League clubs, having won their regional tournament. The second day of the tournament focused on the national U11 girls finals, with clubs across the National League, EFL and PL getting through to the finals.
The matches were officiated by Premier League and Women's Super League referees, and all of the players got the chance to be pictured with the iconic Premier League trophy and play on a Premier League pitch.
Speaking after the final game Dean said, "I would like to thank everyone at Watford FC and the Premier League Communities for working so hard to make sure this event was a success. It was fantastic to see the children’s faces as they made their way out of the tunnel and onto the pitch.
"I would also like to thank the referees for taking the time to attend. The standard of football was really high, I am sure there were some future Premier League stars taking part in the tournament.”
