Watford MP Dean Russell attended an event organised by Indradhanush kids, a local organisation for the performing and creative arts which provides young people a platform to pursue their passion.
"Indradhanush" means a bow made of colours, and this Watford-based organisation which is dedicated to supporting young people, put on a colourful and vibrant event in partnership with the Inspiring Indian Women Group at Stanborough Secondary School.
There was a fashion show and a DJ, as well as dance performances to folk, jazz, contemporary and Bollywood music.
The aim of the event was to raise funds to support acid attack survivors, with some funds also being allocated to support Ukrainian refugees.
The event also saw a performance from Sandip Soparrkar, a renowned Indian Latin and ballroom dancer and Bollywood choreographer and Suhani Dhanki, an Indian dancer and television actress. Sandip’s 'Dance for a Cause' initiative has been using dance as a tool to raise awareness for issues such as acid attacks on women.
Dean Russell said “It was an honour to be invited to such a wonderful event highlighting such an important issue. I’d like to say a huge congratulations to all of the organisers and all of the performers. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and well-organised event.”
