Dean spoke to the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Lionel Wallace, about the Youth in Herts Programme.
The High Sheriff launched this programme at his declaration ceremony and it has three core elements. Firstly, the Young Leaders Award, which is a school-based programme that empowers young people to practice leadership skills by working to change their communities through social action. Secondly, the ’30 Under 30 Project’ will seek to encourage and support the appointment of more young magistrates to the bench by the Local Advisory Committee. Finally, ‘Be Your Own Boss – Hertfordshire’ seeks to increase employment opportunities for young people by giving them the support they need to be successful entrepreneurs.
Dean spoke to the High Sheriff about the importance of these initiatives for young people in Watford and across the whole of Hertfordshire and to learn how he can assist in making this project a success.
Following his conversation with the High Sheriff, Dean said: “I had a very productive call with the High Sheriff today. It was great to learn more about how this project aims to empower young people to become leaders by giving them an opportunity to serve their community in engaging ways.”
