This week Dean Russell planted a tribute in the Westminster Constituency Garden of Remembrance to mark Remembrance Day.
The Garden was created this year by the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, to mark 100 years of Remembrance through the Royal British Legion. He asked all Members of Parliament to take part in the inaugural Garden located on the Parliamentary Estate in New Palace Yard as a “fitting reminder of the sacrifices made by constituents up and down the country.”
Following planting his tribute, Dean said: “Today I planted a Remembrance Stake to pay tribute to all those who lost their lives or were injured and sacrificed so much for our freedoms across Watford and the whole of the UK. The Garden is a really moving tribute and I have made sure that my tribute comes from the people of Watford to say thank you to all those who sacrificed so much so that we can keep our freedoms.”
Sir Lindsay said he hoped by Remembrance Day on 11 November, the garden would boast more than 700 tributes, each bearing a handwritten message of thanks. "I am so proud that we have created a garden to mark 100 years of Remembrance as we know it together with the Royal British Legion - who do so much to provide lifelong support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families," he said.
