I asked the Facebook whistleblower, Frances Haugen, whether she thought that the senior leadership team at Facebook, including Mark Zuckerberg, actually cares about the impact that their platform is having on children. Please watch the video above to hear her answer.
I also asked Frances if Facebook learn from abusive slang phrases. I shared my own experience of postings from people who wanted to give me a 'Glasgow Hug' meaning they wanted to stab me. When reported, they initially said it did not violate their rules.
During that same evidence session, I asked Frances if the effects that Facebook usage has on children and their brains means that it should be regulated differently. She explained that the fact that private schools in Silicon Valley often have a zero social media policy is evidence that more must be done to better regulate these social media companies in order to protect young people.
