With two construction workers taking their own lives every working day, raising awareness of the importance of mental health is a top priority for the Home Builders Federation, and Dean was asked to host the event given his passion for promoting mental well being in all workplaces.
The Home Builders Federation and its members have been working to raise awareness of the importance of good mental health since the launch of their campaign in 2019. Over 50 developers have signed up to support the Building Mental Health Framework, and thome building industry has trained over 1,000 Mental Health First Aiders.
Sadly, the risk of a male construction worker dying by suicide is three times above the national average. Evidently, much more needs to be done which is why this event was held to bring together industry, Parliamentarians and MHFA representatives.
Speaking at the event Dean said
"It is more important than ever to break down the stigma and encourage open discussion when it comes to mental health. This area is of huge importance to me and is why I reintroduced my bill to make mental health first aid training a legal requirement in every workplace."
