Local MP Dean Russell was invited to spend the morning with Watford Workshop, a business and workplace that for nearly 60 years have provided employment, work experience and independent life skills training to adults with disabilities.
The unique organisation provides cost effective and reliable outsourcing partnerships to organisations in the UK and around the world. They provide a range of services from hand packing goods, electrical assembly and promotional packaging.
The charity also provides tutoring and lessons on life skills tailored to individual needs, such as learning how to cook, how to do washing, how to handle money, as well as dance lessons and yoga sessions to encourage service users to have confidence in their day to day lives.
Dean got to meet with some employees who told him about how Watford Workshop has empowered them by providing them with work and training, and enabling them to lead independent lives. The workforce learn vital social skills and obtain valuable experience on the workshop floor whilst providing commercial services for a wide variety of customer projects.
Dean said, ‘I always enjoy visiting Watford Workshop and meet the fantastic staff that work hard every day to fufill orders and send products around the world. The organisation has had a huge positive impact on those who work there, giving those with disabilities independence that can change their lives. ‘
