Local Watford MP Dean Russell was delighted to present Ross Coniam with the prestigious 'Points of Light' Award from the Prime Minister. The award recognises Ross's outstanding contribution to charity, specifically for '#Nine4Norah,' a child bereavement campaign established in memory of his daughter Norah, who tragically passed away only 9 hours after her birth in 2018.
Moved by the support he received from various charities following Norah's passing, Ross decided to give back by undertaking a fundraising challenge. In 2019, he completed nine endurance challenges, raising over £87,000 for stillbirth and neonatal death charities. Among the challenges were the London Marathon, the Isle of Wight 106km ultra challenge, and the London to Brighton Bike Ride. Ross has since surpassed £100,000.
Dean stated, ‘I would like to offer my congratulations to Ross who has been awarded a prestigious Points of Light Award. Ross launched a child bereavement campaign entitled ‘#Nine4Norah’ in memory of his daughter Norah who tragically lost her life.
Ross also does such valuable work in helping to break the silence surrounding grief and set up a ‘Dads and Lads’ support network which promotes conversations about bereavement and mental health’.
Following the event, Ross commented ‘It is an honour to have received the Prime Minister, Points of Light Award. Another memory in Norah’s legacy. I would like to thank Dean Russell MP, Member of Parliament for Watford for meeting me today and discuss our campaign.
It is truly unbelievable that we have raised nearly £100,000 over the past 5 years and been able to support so many families that have also had to deal with the loss of a baby or young child.
This would not be possible without everyone’s generosity and support. Babyloss is still very much a taboo subject but the more we can expose campaigns like ours and help raise awareness, the more we can get people talking’.
