Politics students from Watford Girls' Grammar School visited the Houses of Parliament to meet with local MP Dean Russell. The pupils were also given a tour of the Commons and the Lords. Before they were taken to the public gallery, which gave students a close glimpse of the workings of Parliament in action, they watched the Speaker's procession.
After the guided tour from Dean and his team, there was a question-and-answer session with the MP, with discussions around current affairs, life as an MP and parliamentary process.
Dean said “I hope that the session helped the pupils learn more about politics and democracy, gave them an insight into how the Commons is run and the role of elected representatives. It was so encouraging to see the students taking such an interest in politics. They certainly put me through my paces by asking a number of brilliant questions about my role as their local Watford MP.”
