Dean Russell attended an Open Morning at the National Bobath Cerebral Palsy Centre to learn more about the important work that the charity does to support people of all ages living with cerebral palsy.
The Bobath Centre is based in Watford and is a specialist treatment and training centre that has a dedicated team of physio, occupational and speech and language therapists that work to support people with cerebral palsy and similar neurological conditions. The treatment that individuals receive is tailored to their needs, with their primary focus being on babies and children because research shows that early intervention for individuals with neurological conditions significantly improves their life chances. In 2020 the charity received £40,000 from the government’s Coronavirus Community Support Fund and were one of over 8000 charities that received such grants.
The Open Morning that their team organised was a great opportunity for people from a range of local organisations, and the charity’s trustees, to observe some of their therapy sessions, to talk to the therapists, and to see the range of facilities that they use.
Following his visit Dean said: “I would like to thank the wonderful team at Bobath for the important work that they do to support people in our town that live with cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions. Today I got to see for myself the range of therapies that they use, and to talk to the charity’s therapists and leadership team to learn more about how they ensure that they tailor the treatments to the needs of each person. I am proud that we have such a wonderful charity in our town.”
A spokesperson from the Bobath Centre said: "We're so grateful that Dean could come to see us in action! Our open morning makes us feel that we have really arrived in Watford, and we're looking forward to building stronger connections within the local community."
