Watford MP Dean Russell visited the South-West Herts branch of Samaritans as they hosted a drop-in for people to learn more about the work that they do.
South-West Herts Samaritans are a group of passionate volunteers working together to make sure fewer people die by suicide. They help to keep the national helplines running, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. They are a lifeline for people from all walks of life that find themselves reaching crisis point.
They also reach out to the local community, including schools and the hospital, to improve people's emotional health, and to also increase awareness around mental health.
Speaking after the event Dean said “I was so pleased to be invited to attend the drop-in and had the privilege of listening to the Director, Sally Phillips, who paid tribute to the wonderful volunteers and outlined all the services which are on offer for those who may need to use their service. Quite simply, the service could not operate without volunteers who give up their own time to help others.
“They are always looking for new volunteers, so if you would like to help and get involved, please contact them on Tel 01923 233614.”
