Dean Russell chaired the Westminster Media Forum Policy Conference to discuss the future for UK film with a range of speakers from the film industry.
Westminster Forum Projects originated in the UK Parliament and is a platform for conferences on a wide range of topics, including education, health, and media. The Westminster Media Forum was the first of these forums to be created and was launched in 1996 as a series of annual meetings organised on behalf of the Westminster Parliament’s All-Party Parliamentary Media Group. Since its creation, the forum has been a platform for a series of discussions to discuss important issues in the industry.
This conference, titled ‘The future for UK film’, allowed the attendees to explore a range of topics, including the future of film financing models, addressing the film sector skills shortage and how to make the UK film industry more competitive internationally. These subjects were discussed by the Chief Executive of the British Film Institute, Ben Roberts; the Chief Executive of Film London; Adrian Wootton, the Managing Director of Twickenham Film Studios, Cara Sheppard; and many more respected experts from the industry.
After chairing this event, Dean said: “It was a privilege to chair this important and engaging discussion about the future of the UK film industry. I know from my work as the Chairman of the Film and Production All Party Parliamentary Group, and the discussions I have had with local film industry leaders in Watford, how important the film industry is. I am glad to have had this opportunity to chair this discussion about how we can ensure that it continues to thrive.”
