For vulnerable people, especially, the internet has many advantages. People with epilepsy use social media to access information about their condition, to find a community of people with similar experiences and to share positive news.
But trolls use the same platform to target people with epilepsy, with the explicit intent of provoking a seizure. This must stop now.
We were both elected in 2019 with very clear objectives: to fight for our constituents and to improve society for all. We are proud to be backing the Epilepsy Society's #ZachsLaw campaign. He is a wonderful young man.
Twitter's Nick Pickles is based in the US, but he is proud to point out that, like Zach, he is a Yorkshireman. At a recent committee session scrutinising the Online Safety Bill, we challenged Nick to meet with the Epilepsy Society. We are delighted that he kept to his word and are excited about his pledges.
Our battle is far from over, but with the promise of industry-wide collaboration, there is real hope.
