It was a pleasure to host a range of local Hertfordshire faith leaders at a roundtable yesterday in Parliament organised with the Watford Interfaith Association and One Vision to discuss how we can work together to support the residents of Watford. This was the first session and I am hopeful even more faith leaders will be able to participate in future events.
It is inspiring to hear about all of the community initiatives that our local religious groups undertake and the important interfaith activities and volunteering that happens everyday.
We discussed a range of topics including the unnecessary stigma around asking for help. There is no doubt that faith leaders are often the most trusted source for information and guidance, both spiritual and practical. We discussed the importance of asking for help and doing so should not be perceived as a weakness but a strength.
As the cold weather sets in and with cost of living pressures, we agreed it is vitally important people know that there is support available and where to turn for advice and support. I will be sharing information of available support including a list of Government initiatives with the group to share. The most pressing of these is a reminder for the deadline to register for pension credits on 18th December.
We agreed the importance of sharing initiatives and helping signpost volunteers so they can support locally too.
If you, or someone you know, is finding it difficult at this time, please reach out and my office and I will do our best to signpost to the local support services available.
I look forward to collaboratively working with local faith leaders in the interests of our community.
