The Kytes Residential Estate in Watford was originally built to provide suitable and accessible homes for disabled ex-servicemen, protected by a legally binding covenant and supported by a substantial grant from the Joint Committee of the Order of St John and the British Red Cross Society.
With significant expansion of the estate, an overriding concern is to ensure the redevelopment does not compromise on the original purpose of this community – to provide a home and safe haven for veterans and people with disabilities. This petition urges Anchor Hanover to engage with the council and include a legally binding agreement that the Kytes Estate includes purpose-built and well-maintained accommodation to house people over the age of 55, those with disabilities, and veterans and their families.
I am very grateful to all the residents who have contacted me on this important issue. It is absolutely paramount that the commitments for the long term are regularised in order to give residents peace of mind."
